Trim Healthy Mama Podcast: CBD and The Endocannabinoid System

Every day, more and more people are jumping on the CBD bandwagon. Today, the Trim Healthy Mama sisters, Pearl and Serene, jumped up on that bandwagon with all four feet with a podcast promoted as their, “first-ever CBD poddy”.

Can we assume this means there’s more to come? As big fans, we certainly hope to hear more from Pearl and Serene and their army of Trim Healthy Mamas, on the medical potential of CBD.

The episode, titled, “Your Endocannabinoid System – You need to know about it and get it humming”, is an introduction to the human endocannabinoid system and the role it plays in your general health as well as your ability to fight off a number of health-related conditions.

You can listen to the poddy here.

The endocannabinoid system, first discovered in 1992, is central to understanding how cannabis works to heal the human body. A network of receptors found throughout the body of all mammals, the endocannabinoid system or ECS is responsible for maintaining homeostasis throughout the body and regulating the interactions between the immune system, hormone system, and neurological systems, to help your body do what it is designed to do – heal itself.

When the ECS is not functioning properly or in the case of a Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency, it can result in a number of health-related issues.

The receptor system works by means of two primary binding molecules that act upon it to signal a variety of responses. These two compounds, known as anandamide and 2-AG are known as endocannabinoids. They are called endo-cannabinoids because they are endogenous to the human body, or more simply stated, they are created in your body. Some people like to refer to them as the bodies own internal cannabis.

When describing cannabis as medicine, you are actually describing the effectiveness of particular cannabinoids produced by the cannabis plant, called phytocannabinoids (plant-derived) to act upon the endocannabinoid system. In effect, when there’s a problem within the internal workings of the ECS and the natural endocannabinoids it produces, you can adjust the system by introducing phytocannabinoids found in cannabis.

By manipulating the ECS with plant-derived cannabinoids, research has shown you can use these phytocannabinoids to treat a number of health conditions.

If you want to learn more about the endocannabinoid system and CBD phytocannabinoids listen in to today’s special THM podcast.

It’s worth noting, although CBD is derived from cannabis, unlike the THC cannabinoids found in marijuana, they will not make you high. More importantly, Mamas, CBD will not give you the munchies. Just sayin’.
